Burgess Hill School Hockey Team have been in dynamic form of late and have gained a place in the National U16 Hockey Plate finals, to be held in Nottingham, on Saturday 16th May.
The competition started back in January, with 81 schools taking part. The girls comfortably won through their county and regional rounds beating Oathall, St Bedes, Moira House, Tiffin Girls and Dartmoor College, to gain a place in the semi finals. The girls came up against Tudor Hall from Oxfordshire, in what was a very exciting game.
The match was played at the Triangle Leisure Centre and the girls used the home crowd to their advantage. They got off to a flying start by scoring two quick goals in the first fifteen minutes. However, the girls sat back and let Tudor dominate the rest of the half, to go in 2-1 at half time.
The second half saw Burgess Hill step up the pressure and start moving the ball around, and they began to wear down the opposition. Some excellent team goals and strikes saw Burgess Hill convert four more goals to widen the gap to 6 goals to 2. By then Burgess Hill had relaxed and played with fluency, dominating possession all over the pitch.
The final whistle went and the girls had reached their first ever National Hockey Final. A marvelous achievement for the girls and school.
