Environmental issues have been at the centre of some innovative cross-curricular project work produced by girls at Burgess Hill School for Girls.
Year 9 students have conducted research into the global fashion industry, and how fibres and fabrics have a large impact on the world we live in. Logos and strap lines have been designed to increase the awareness of the main issues and these have been printed onto T-shirts. The initiative also involved ‘Project Textiles’ visiting the school for an exciting day. They developed computer generated designs which were then stitched to a professional standard on the computer controlled embroidery machines.
Work produced by the girls will be displayed at the Brighton Centre as part of the ‘Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts’ exhibition to be held from 6th to 8th February. In attempt to increase environmental awareness girls will be inviting the public at this event to swap plastic carrier bags for handmade fabric ones.
The Photographs show girls enjoying working with ‘Project Textiles’ on their CAD/CAM designs.
