Eighty-three girls from Years 9, 10 and 11 at Burgess Hill School for Girls were entered for the National Intermediate Mathematics Competition, organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust. Between them they achieved 3 gold, 12 silver and 25 bronze certificates (pictured below).
Students who scored 77 or higher qualified for a more challenging international competition. This year Burgess Hill School were delighted that three of their students qualified. Sophie Mok and Sarah Lucas, both in Year 11, took part in the ‘Pink’ European Kangaroo competition.
Charlotte Frost (Year 11) scored 110 which qualified her to take the more prestigious Maclaurin International Olympiad Competition, for which she received a certificate of merit. She has also been selected as one of only 40 students nationally who have been invited to attend the National Mathematics Summer School at Queen’s College, Birmingham in July. The summer school’s academic programme will include master classes, group work and team competitions. The mathematical activities will be intensive and designed to stimulate the UK’s most talented young mathematicians.
