Young footballers from Burgess Hill School for Girls played their first football match of the season and finished with a win.
The group of novice, but enthusiastic girls, aged between eight and ten years, played at Southdown Football Club against the junior home team on Saturday 30th January.
In a closely fought match Burgess Hill were 1-0 up at half time after a goal was scored by Grace Paterson.
With the benefit of playing slightly down hill in the second half, Burgess Hill increased their lead with Georgina Nathan slotting the ball into the back of the net. Southdown pushed hard to score and had a number of opportunities, but the win was secured when Georgina Grafin-Kerssenbrock ‘nutmegged’ the goal keeper; kicking the ball through her legs and into the bottom left hand corner.
The final score was 3-0 to Burgess Hill and the girls were thrilled to achieve success in their first match.
