A Police Liaison Officer attended Burgess Hill School for Girls on a number of occasions this term. Fortunately the good reputation of the school remained intact as the visits were purely educational.
All the Junior School pupils enjoyed a series of sessions with a new Police Liaison Officer, PC Debbie Cummins, from Burgess Hill Police Station.
Girls in Year 2 were encouraged to think hard about how to keep safe in a range of ‘real life’ situations: What would they do if a stranger offered them a lift? What would they do if they became lost in a supermarket? What are their choices if a stranger knocked on their door?
“It was very interesting finding out about the safest things to do” said Hannah from class 2TP. Beth, also from Year 2, said that hearing the other children’s ideas helped her learn a lot about how to keep safe, and Olivia from class 2AS said, “I enjoyed looking at the pictures and thinking about the best way to act.”
Deputy Head of the Junior School, Mrs. Pearson, commented “We very much look forward to welcoming PC Cummins back next year to further enrich our Citizenship curriculum.”
