The cast and crew of Annie, made up of over 60 students from Year 7 to Sixth Form at Burgess Hill School for Girls, have been working hard since September to bring this well known musical to life.
Director Emma Tarratt said, “It has been such a big journey for everyone. It is the first time we have held a production with students from every year group involved in the cast and crew. We have some really talented students who have been able to shine doing this show, both on and off the stage.”
The production includes a huge variety of characters, fantastic songs, dancing and humour as well as truly touching moments. The story follows an orphan, Annie, who tris to run away from her New York orphanage which is run by the famous Miss Hannigan. Then Annie is given the chance to stay with the wealthy Oliver Warbucks, who, along with his assistant Grace and the staff of his mansion, fall for her charms and decide to adopt her. However Miss Hannigan, her brother Rooster and his girlfriend, Lily St Regis, have other ideas!
The challenge of putting on such a massive show has meant a lot of hard work from everyone, but Emma Tarratt insists it has been “exhilarating” too. “It has been such a massive challenge for everyone, including the real star of the show, Molly the dog, who plays Sandy!”
The 1000 tickets for the show sold out in just over a week and Emma commented, “We can’t wait for performance week and the chance to perform to such large audiences. We hope they enjoy watching it as much as we have enjoyed putting it all together.”
Annie will be performed in Croft Hall at Burgess Hill School for Girls onThursday 11th, Friday 12th andSaturday 13th March.
