On Saturday 20th February a stalwart band of girls from Burgess Hill School for Girls, with parents, teachers and friends made their way to Worthing Leisure Centre to support their professional basketball coach, Daniel Hildreth, and his team Worthing Thunder, when they played Everton Tigers.
After a disastrous first half in which the Thunder players ended up 23 points down, the Burgess Hill School contingent encouraged their favourite team to play hard. A miraculous improvement followed, in which the Thunder side not only caught up with Everton, but overtook them.
Despite the home team finallylosing by six, the young fans thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had the opportunity to meet the players after the game. The tallest player, 6ft 9in American Kadiri Richard, thanked the girls for their efforts and commented, “What lovely, polite young ladies. You must go to a great school!”
