Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Year 7 Netball and Hockey teams were in fine form at the annual Mayfield Invitational Schools’ Tournament.
The girls showed great strength, in depth, across the two sports, working well as a team, and demonstrating a high skill level.
On the netball courts, the girls swept away Brighton College 18-2, Walthamstow Hall 11-1, Mayfield 11-1 and drew with Kent College 6-6, to finish winners of their section. In the semi finals the girls rose to the occasion to beat Brighton and Hove High School 13-5, to gain a place in the final. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam and lost to a strong Kent College side 7-5.
The hockey girls played some excellent hockey throughout the morning, passing and moving fluently up the pitch, showing great determination to score the goals, as well as defend as a team. The team finished with wins over Tonbridge 4-0, Mayfield 2-0 and Brighton College 3-2, to become winners of the tournament for the first time.
Head of P.E. Suzy Clapp commented, “This was a fantastic achievement for both Year 7 teams to make the final of both sports; the only school to do so. This is a testament to all their hard work and dedication to the subject.”
