Five girls from Burgess Hill School for Girls have won places in International Mathematics Competitions and were presented with certificates and prizes on 26th March.
Over 200,000 students country-wide took part the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge in February this year, and 76 of them were girls from Years 9, 10 and 11 at Burgess Hill School for Girls.
The students tackled challenging Mathematical questions in an hour long test where both logic and lateral thinking were required. Between them the Burgess Hill girls achieved an excellent 7 gold, 12 silver and 22 bronze certificates.
Year 10 and 11 students qualified for entry into the European Pink Kangaroo competition if they scored more than 80 points. Laura Willis and Charing To, Year 11, and Natalie Choi, Year 10, all achieved these high scores and have won places in the competition. They received Gold certificates and prizes for their achievements in the end of term school assembly.
Ashley Ma, Year 9, did brilliantly to score over 83 to qualify for the more difficult Cayley International Olympiad Competition and received a Gold certificate and prize.
Scores of over 91 points made students eligible for the Hamilton International Olympiad for Year 10s and Julia Zhuang qualified with an amazing 114. She was presented with the ‘Best in School’ award, a Gold Certificate and a prize for becoming a Hamilton qualifier.
Maths teacher at Burgess Hill School, Helen Tapsfield, said “This is a fantastic achievement for all these girls and we eagerly await the results.”
