On Tuesday 16th March, seven students from the Colegio Internacional San Jorge, along with their teacher, travelled from their home town of Caceres, Spain, to Burgess Hill for the return part of their Spanish Exchange with Burgess Hill School for Girls.
In October, 2009, seven Burgess Hill students stayed with them for a week and enjoyed learning about the history and culture of Caceres and Spain and, of course, improving their knowledge of the Spanish language.
Whilst in England the girls stayed with their partners, and during the day they enjoyed various trips to places such as London and Brighton. The girls also spent a day with their partners in lessons to really immerse themselves in the English language.
However, an exchange isnt just about learning new things;its about meeting new people and making new friends from another country. Its safe to say that both trips, to Spain and England, were thoroughly enjoyed by all and created memories that will last for a lifetime. It just goes to show that distance and even a language barrier can be overcome by friendship.
