The Brighton Festival Children's Parade celebrated its 25th year in 2010 with the theme 'The Planet'. The polar, temperate, tropical and desert regions were celebrated with 4,000 participants from over 80 schools and community groups parading through the city's streets.
The annual Parade tradition continued for girls in Years 5 and 6, as they worked alongside professional artist Paul Render and a team of enthusiastic teachers and parents to create a giant scarecrow, wheat field and swooping black crows for the temperate zone.
Our mischievous scarecrow patted Brighton residents on the head and shook hands with passers- by, much to the amusement of the girls.
"It was a great day for all of the family. We all had so much fun" said Jasmine Scott, a Year 5 pupil.
Against all of the odds, the sun smiled down on the parade as it wound its way from Sydney Street, through North Laine, New Road and East Street, to the seafront and Madeira Drive to the great delight of the onlookers.
