On Saturday 8th May, boarders from Years 7 to 10 enjoyed the spectacular award winning show 'Legenda' by The Moscow State Circus who performed as part of The Brighton Fringe Festival at Preston Park.
Girls took their ringside seats and watched in awe as the 35 strong cast of Russias greatest circus performers combined the story of the legendary Russian folklore figure Rasputin with the traditional experience of clowns, trapeze artists, jugglers and unicycles creating a sensational show combining contemporary and classical circus.
All girls agreed that the show was a fantastic spectacle of human ability, from start to finish leaving everyone sat on the edge of their seats as amazing (often dangerous) acts were witnessed.
The sky wheel genuinely left girls screaming and uncertain as to whether the act could have gone wrong, or had they witnessed a performance choreographed to perfection?
"It's amazing how they travelled so high up into the Big Top! I was so frightened that they would fall into the audience" said Rebecca Lo, Year 10.
Another highlight was the unbelievable Popozovs where a wife shot an apple off her husbands head with the use of seven simultaneous crossbows!
On the whole the favourite act was undoubtedly the traditional clown duo Valik and Valerik, who displayed their art of slapsick to perfection tantalising us all with their cunning capers.
"The Clowns were my favourite, I particularly liked the tall one, he made me laugh each time he walked on stage" said Peony Chan, Year 10.
Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable afternoon which was easily gauged from the expressions on the girl's faces; as long as The Moscow State Circus returns to the Brighton Fringe Festival each year, the boarders from Burgess Hill School for Girls will continue to enjoy "the greatest show on earth".
