There are different arrangements for entry to the Nursery, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form. Please contact the Registrar to obtain a prospectus and registration form.

Entrance assessments and examinations for entry to the Junior (Years 3 - 6) and Senior (Years 7 - 10) Schools in September 2008 have already taken place for those students currently studying in the UK.  However there are limited places in selected year groups still available.  Please contact the Registrar for further details.

Nursery Entry

The Nursery has girls and boys between the ages of 2½ and 4 years. There is no entry test and children are placed on a waiting list. Children with special needs are welcome. We operate an Equal Opportunities policy for all children and adults.

To arrange an appointment to view the Nursery phone 01444 237008 or email the Nursery Manager.

Junior School Entry

Entry is by assessment and our main assessments take place in the January preceding the September entry date.

The younger girls (Reception - Year 2) are assessed in a very informal way, spending part of the day with us and usually leaving with a hop, skip and a jump having thoroughly enjoyed themselves! This informal assessment also takes place in the January preceding the September entry date.

Girls sit written papers for entry into Year 3 and above, but we always look beyond purely academic results in deciding whether to offer a place. We will also request a copy of a recent school report.

We have a small number of scholarships (Music and Academic) available to girls entering Years 3 and 4. These are open to both internal and external candidates and are awarded for academic and musical excellence, if the required standard is achieved.

It is possible to admit girls mid-year if there are vacancies.

Please contact the Registrar to obtain a prospectus and registration form.

Senior School Entry

Entry into the Senior School from the Junior School is automatic, provided that the Headmistress feels a girl will cope with the work.

Entry from other schools is by examination, interview and reference.

Girls of all Senior ages are welcome and placed according to ability - the main ages for entry are at 11 & 13 years.

Selection is not only on academic ability. The school is looking for students who will benefit from the education we can offer and who will contribute to our friendly and purposeful environment.

The entrance examinations are held in January and consist of Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning. Further details of the English and Mathematics syllabus for the examination will be sent once your daughter is on our list of prospective pupils. An informal interview will also be held in the December preceding the September entry.

We endeavour to make this a happy day and girls need not feel anxious. The main aim is to establish the standard the girls have reached at their current schools and ensure that what we are able to offer at Burgess Hill School for Girls will meet their educational needs.

It is possible to admit girls mid-year if there are vacancies.

Please contact the Registrar to obtain a prospectus and registration form.

Sixth Form Entry

A minimum of 5 GCSE's grade A* - C or their equivalent are required for entry. Under normal circumstances a grade A*, A or B is required in subjects to be studied at AS/A2 level.

Wherever possible the Headmistress and Head of Sixth Form like to interview external candidates. Students from overseas are required to provide evidence of their ability to understand and write the standard of English required for advanced studies. A report from the student's school is always required before a place can be offered.

Please contact the Registrar to obtain a prospectus and registration form.
