Elizabeth Burgess, an Old Girl and former music scholar of Burgess Hill School for Girls made her debut appearance at the Wigmore Hall in London on Monday 24th May accompanying baritone Marcus Farnsworth.
Their programme included songs by Schubert and Schumann and, after the interval, some English songs by Mark Anthony Turnage and Benjamin Britten.
It was a superb evening and Marcus sang with great passion and impeccable diction. Elizabeth accompanied with great style and sensitivity and seemed in total command of the piano. Her playing in the Lieder was lyrical and she tackled the tricky accompaniments in the Britten with great dynamism whilst always supporting the singer.
Elizabeth will be appearing at St. Peter's Church Ardingly on Friday 18th June in a charity concert along with violinist Lucia Capilla and tenor Peter Davoren so do support this local event - a rare chance to hear such talent in a programme of Brahms, Massenet and Britten.
