Burgess Hill School for Girls is again celebrating superb GCSE results. 76% of all entries were graded A* or A. More than a third of the year group gained A* or A in all their subjects and 42% achieved these top grades in nine or more subjects: Rachel Argyle, Adele Bopari, Hannah Broad, Poppea Daniel, Narina Evans, Natasha Fletcher, Fiona Harlow, Molly Horton, Dorothy Jarman, Miriam Kennedy, Emily Kneale, Elsa Lai, Janet Lee, Vivian Leung, Susan Li, Jennifer Lorimer, Holly Miller, Helena Osborne, Jessica Palmer, Shrea Patel, Katherine Paul, Emily Perrin, Sabie Rainton, Moira Ryan, Kirsty Simons, Bethan Watson, Elaine Wong. Special congratulations go to Sophie Brammer who gained 11 A* grades. Sophie also achieved one of the top five marks in the country in French and in English Literature. She was joined by 6 other girls in achieving this accolade of a top mark nationally. Holly Miller and Kirsty Simons reached this standard in both French and Spanish, whilst Alexandra Vermes, Molly Horton and Helena Osborne gained one of the top five marks for French and Moira Ryan for Spanish. The Languages department are naturally delighted for the girls, they are indeed able linguists and their success is all the more pleasing given the concerns nationally about the current status of languages in schools.
95% of all entries were awarded grade B or above which is a testament to the focus and hard work of the girls and their teachers across all subject areas. The Headmistress, Ann Aughwane, said “The girls have achieved this alongside demonstrating keen interest and commitment in a wide range of other activities from Drama, Music and Sport to learning Mandarin or acting as volunteers in the community. They each deserve the highest praise for their achievement and their contribution. With a bright future ahead of them and we are looking forward to welcoming most of them back into the Sixth Form next week.”
“It is particularly encouraging that many of the girls have chosen to study Science and Mathematics in the Sixth Form and, at a time when uptake of these subjects is under threat nationally, it is a clear demonstration that girls’ interest and talent in Science is being nurtured successfully in girls’ schools.”
