Burgess Hill School for Girls is delighted that this year’s results maintain the excellent record for which it is renowned. With 82% of all A level grades at A or B and 94.4% A-C grades, the girls have again demonstrated their strength across all subject areas. Two thirds of the year group are celebrating having achieved A or B in all their subjects.

Seventeen girls, almost 40% of the year group, achieved three or more A grades and deserve particular congratulations on their superb achievement. They are Abigail Bleackley (English & History, Southampton), Eleanor Boddie (French & Hispanic Studies, Nottingham) Tracey Chan (Mechanical Engineering, UCL), Kris Cheung (Law, LSE), Melissa Farmelo (applying in 2009), Laura Jenkins (Egyptology, University College, Oxford), Edith Ko (Mathematics with Economics, UCL), Candy Lam (Medicine, Newcastle), Sabina Li (Chemistry, UCL), Lauren Morley (Film Studies, King’s College, London), Priya Patel (Medicine, Birmingham), Georgina Rennie (Spanish & French, Exeter), Emma Rogers (English, Royal Holloway), Lauren Smith (applying in 2009), Adele Turner (History & Economics, Merton College, Oxford), Kate Watson (Mathematics, Exeter), Tiffany Wong (Environmental Policy with Economics, LSE, London). Abigail Bleackley also scored one of the top five marks in Drama and Theatre Studies.

Amidst the concerns nationally about the uptake of Sciences, Mathematics and Languages, it is particularly pleasing to note that a third of the girls heading for University this year are taking up courses in these key areas.

Headmistress, Ann Aughwane, said “I am pleased that yet again the girls’ hard work has been rewarded with the grades they so richly deserve. They have really made the most of their opportunities and have contributed a great deal within the School and the local community whilst managing their studies too, more proof of women multitasking successfully! I am also pleased for the staff; the consistently excellent performance achieved year on year by students at the School is no accident. It is a testament to the quality of teaching the girls receive and to the professionalism of everyone who has supported and encouraged the girls in pursuit of their goals.”

The AS results are exceptional, with almost a third of the year group gaining A grades across all their subjects. Sophie Brammer received a letter of congratulations from the examination board, Edexcel; she is one of the top ten students who have achieved the highest overall marks in Spanish AS this year. Headmistress, Ann Aughwane, said “The girls’ success this year will give them a real boost for continuing their studies next year. There is no doubt that these girls are well placed to maintain the level of excellence regularly achieved by students at Burgess Hill School. Well done, girls”.
