Boarders' Leavers' Party 2010

Time flies, after a year of hard work and the end of the GCSEs and A-Levels 2010, we have come to the big event in the boarding calendar in which all boarders gather together and have a Leavers' party.

It seems just yesterday we arrived at school and started counting down the days for when we were able to return home. Today, we don't want time to pass so quickly and want to stay in school. The Leavers' party is always a bitter sweet moment for everyone and this year was no exception.

Our 2010 theme was the Eighties; everyone dressed up in floral prints, bright colours, beads, jewellery and thick headbands.

It was unbelievable the numbers of girls who were wearing high heels, running, chasing and simply enjoying themselves. What I want to say is, "BOARDERS' GOT TALENT" and our talent is ... WEARING HEELS!! Every single boarder looked gorgeous today (we look gorgeous everyday!)

We had our party at Silverdale Boarding House and ate barbeque food for supper. A large variety of foods were served, fruit punch, juice, soft drinks, followed by hamburgers, chicken drumsticks and fish kebabs. Last, but not least we enjoyed fresh fruit, chocolate cake and cheese cake. This was a time when girls and staff forgot all about 'keeping fit' and enjoyed having their final big feast.

After the food, it was time for some amazing entertainment, the Lower Sixth boarders sang 'A Small Part of The World' followed by all the non-leaving boarders singing a compilation of different melodies.

The most touching part of the afternoon had finally arrived.... It was time to play the leavers' video messages in which the leaving girls had taken time to say some special words to the teachers and staff, this was followed by more videos where the remaining boarders took the opportunity to say farewell to the 2010 leavers.

The leaving girls must not forget, Burgess Hill School for Girls will always be here and as old girls, they are welcome to come back and visit us. No matter what difficulties they have to overcome in the future, they must remember:

"YOU ARE NOT ALONE,

FOR I AM HERE WITH YOU,

THOUGH YOU’RE FAR AWAY

I AM HERE TO STAY"

The door to Burgess Hill School for Girls will always be open and welcome you back.

Once a Burgess Hillian, forever a Burgess Hillian! Good Luck in the future.
