The School Council at Burgess Hill School for Girls succeeded in conveying soup to the counter for lunches!
At first their suggestion was turned down, but with a little persuasion Chloe De Souza and Sarah Lucas, both in the Upper Sixth, along with the other School Council members managed to encourage the staff to act.
After getting the thumbs-up from the headmistress, Mrs Aughwane, and the kitchen staff, the Council began the extensive task ahead of them.
The first thing the Council did was to embolden the students to fill out a form saying which soups they would like. Tomato, chicken and sweetcorn, and leek and potato were among the favourites.
The next stage was to make a decision about new trays and soup bowls for the canteen. The final decision was a soup bowl with handles and mahogany non-slip trays.
The soup arrived the first day back from half-term and was an instant success. There was a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian soup served with a crusty bread roll. It wasn't just the taste of the soup but the knowing that the girls had achieved something that every pupil and staff member could enjoy.
