Burgess Hill School for Girls recently submitted some of their pupils’ poetry work for this year’s Young Writers Competition and are delighted that out of many entries from all over the UK and overseas, 5 of the girls in the Lower Sixth had their pieces chosen for publication in a glossy A5 softback book entitled 'Away With Words West Sussex', available 31st March 2007.
The winning titles were, ‘Branded with Iron’, ‘Twilight’, ‘Identity’ ‘Iden’ and ‘***_’.These books will be a fantastic reminder to the girls of their achievement and will encourage them to pursue their passion for literature and poetry.
Ann Aughwane, Headmistress said “I am thrilled for the girls to be able to see their poems published. It is exciting for them to be selected and they all deserve the recognition of their creative talents”.
Young Writers have been promoting children's poetry and short stories for ages 7 – 18 since 1992. The ‘Away With Words’ competition is open to all 11-18 year-olds and aims to enhance their literacy and creative skills by introducing them to different writing styles and building on their existing abilities.
