We are delighted that the reports recognise the many strengths of the School’s provision. Each phase of the School is praised and it is difficult to single out particular aspects or phrases. However, it is particularly pleasing to note such comments as:

“The Early Years Foundation Stage provision at Burgess Hill School is outstanding” and “Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage are given an excellent start on which they build as they proceed through the school to the end of Year 6”.

“The Junior School accomplishes outstandingly successfully its aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to find and develop their talents within a safe environment which values everyone in it”.

In Senior School “the outstanding quality of relationships between staff and pupils is a key factor in creating and sustaining the ethos of the school with pupils and staff showing a high level of regard towards each other”.

With regard to the Boarding provision, “the quality of relationships among the boarders is positive” and “they live harmoniously showing a good ability in supporting each other across the age range”. They also endorse that “the relationships between boarders and day pupils are good with boarders being welcomed into the life of the school community where they play an active role”.

We are always extremely proud of the girls’ achievements and are delighted that the inspection team noted,

“Pupils are prompted to think and learn for themselves and display high levels of independent and creative thought” and “The educational experience enables pupils of all abilities and interests to find success and personal achievement”.

Through their own endeavour and the support of the staff the inspectors felt that “Pupils make substantial progress in all aspects of their learning and development and achieve high levels of attainment in public examinations and in a wide range of activities”. (Senior School)

“The highly effective teaching and excellence of the whole educational experience inspire a love of learning and exceptional motivation to achieve the highest possible standards in academic work, sport, drama and music” (Junior School).

We believe the judgement that “the quality of pastoral care is outstanding” across both Senior and Junior Schools is well deserved. The staff certainly deserve to be complimented on their contribution and the inspection reports state,

“The support for and nurturing of individuals are key elements in shaping the outstanding personal development of pupils” and “staff are most generous in giving their time and expertise to enhance the learning and development of pupils”(Senior School)

“The quality of relations between staff and pupils is excellent. Respect and courtesy are evident and so is humour; relations are clearly warm and relaxed and there is an air of happiness and purpose”.  (Junior School)
