The Design and Technology Department of Burgess Hill School for Girls recently applied to the London Assay Office for a hallmark of their own to use on the girls’ work. The School has now been successfully registered and has received the new punch which shows the letters BHSFG. Students attending the Jewellery Club on Wednesdays after school will have the opportunity to work with sterling silver and will be striking their finished items with the Burgess Hill School for Girls maker’s mark.
Caroline Bacon, Technology Teacher at the school has her own maker’s mark and felt it would be great for the girls to experience the sense of ownership you get when you strike a piece you’ve made. She hopes that it will enhance the sense of community at Burgess Hill School being one maker as a unit.
