Throughout their centenary year which ended in January, students and staff at Burgess Hill School for Girls chose to support the local charity Bluebird. Many events were organised by the girls to raise money including cake sales, a treasure hunt and even the sale of two beautiful centenary dolls made by the Head of Textiles, Mrs Barbara Bradley. Overall, the school raised more than £2000 which they presented to Bluebird chief executive Michael Stratford in a special assembly marking the end of their time supporting the charity.
Bluebird is well known throughout Mid Sussex and provides transport facilities for disabled and elderly people who cannot drive and find it difficult to use public transport. Bluebird takes them to various events organised by other charities and without this service, these people would be left at home, stranded and lonely.
Mr Stratford said “It’s not often that a whole school has the opportunity to participate in something, so this is really special. Thank you from all the disabled people of Mid Sussex”.
The school hopes to continue to provide valuable support within the community for many years to come.
