Year 5 students at Burgess Hill School for Girls enjoyed a busy afternoon recently learning about Tudor symbolism from a company called History in Brass.
The visit began with an interactive, illustrated talk using original brass rubbings taken from churches and cathedrals throughout England.
The girls learnt many interesting facts about symbolic representations of the past such as lions being placed under the feet of knights to symbolise their courage and a dog at the feet of a wife showed that she was faithful to her husband. Then the girls made their own rubbings that are now proudly displayed on the classroom wall.
