The Music Scholars of Burgess Hill School for Girls presented their annual concert to an appreciative audience of parents, staff and friends of the school on a warm October evening. Sixteen Music Scholars represented Year 7 to the Upper Sixth and performed pieces ranging from the simple majesty of Einaudi to a stunning performance of Mendelssohn by the string quintet. The audience was treated to numerous changes of mood and tempo delivered with poise, precision and passion by a most talented array of students. A Baroque atmosphere early in the evening gave way to Romanian dances and the rhythm of Gershwin before the concert ended with an exquisite performance of Brockett’s ‘The Mocking Bird’.
Director of Music, Richard Haslam, is looking forward to an exciting series of events during the school’s centenary year, 2006, these will include performances by Burgess Hill students who have left during the last five years to take up places at music schools including the Guildhall, Royal Academy and the Welsh College. As ever the Upper Sixth Scholars delighted the audience with their solo performances and their versatility and provided a standard for others to aspire to.
