Seven girls from Burgess Hill School for Girls, accompanied by their teacher, enjoyed a taste of Spanish life at their partner school in Cáceres. This was the fourth year of the successful exchange programme and as always, the group gained both linguistically and culturally from their stay with Spanish families. We were much luckier with the weather this year and enjoyed seeing Seville and the Roman city of Mérida as they should be seen, on warm sunny days. We also explored the old part of Cáceres itself which is a European heritage site and contains a wealth of Arab and Medieval buildings in a good state of preservation. Although the girls were a little nervous about the food before the trip, in fact they tasted most of what they were offered and were pleasantly surprised. Paella was a particular favourite! Typical of the comments made by the girls on their return journey was, "Going on the exchange was an incredible experience which really boosted our confidence. We improved our vocabulary and also made some new friends."
The girls were all sorry to say goodbye to their new friends and are looking forward to welcoming their Spanish exchange partners to Burgess Hill next Spring.
