Pupils in Year 2 at Burgess Hill School for Girls had a lesson in firework safety before Bonfire Night.

The girls found out how to handle a sparkler safely and how to keep themselves safe, whilst still having fun.

For a little bit of fun after their safety lesson, the girls' class teacher, Mrs Riddle, showed them some of the bonfire costumes she wears as part of the Lewes Borough Bonfire Society.

The class were shown the Tudor dress which Mrs Riddle wore at the Lewes Bonfire Night on Saturday 5th November. They had fun trying on French hoods and a Regency feather headdress.

On Saturday Mrs Riddle had the honour of carrying the key to the town of Lewes for the Lewes Borough Bonfire Society. The Society are allowed to carry the key, which is usually kept at Anne of Cleves house in Lewes, during their procession after being granted the freedom of the town of Lewes every 5th November since 1863.
