Girls in year 6 joined the Senior School at Burgess Hill School for Girls to have an exciting day producing hand-made felt. During their art lessons they had been looking at African designs and safari animals. Rather than painting their designs it was decided to give the girls the opportunity to interpret them in felt. This was a new experience for the year group. Having briefly learnt the basic technique of felt making they set about vigorously rubbing the wool fibres in warm water to make the wool felt together. Apart from making small piece girls also worked on a large group panel depicting a Zebra, Elephant, Lion, and Giraffe. The finished work will be displayed at the end of the school year at the Creative Arts Festival, which forms part of the School’s centenary celebrations.
