Every week thirty Sixth Form students from the Burgess Hill School for Girls volunteer to spend some time with the eager readers of Birchwood Grove School. Armed with a smile and some helpful advice on supporting the reinforcement of reading skills the girls have proved a real asset to the structured reading scheme at the school. The young readers are keen to share the stories with the older girls and to gain the praise that they deserve as their reading progresses. The Sixth Formers involved have enjoyed sharing their knowledge and have found that they too experience a real sense of achievement as the young pupils gain in reading confidence. “It’s fun for us and good to help them. They are reading the books we liked at their age. It’s a really great experience!”
