On Friday 23rd March the Year 10 Life Skills group at Burgess Hill School for Girls welcomed the Conservative MP Nicholas Soames to speak to them on a wide range of interesting subjects. Mr Soames started the talk by outlining his role and weekly routine before going on to discuss local, national and even international issues, for example infrastructure problems facing Mid Sussex and the whole country, and the situation in Zimbabwe. When given the opportunity to ask questions, the girls were eager to discuss issues such as the Princess Royal Hospital, the Olympic budget, and how to become an MP. Mr Soames advised any future politicians to study hard, gain a good understanding of the history of politics and of the constitution, and to consider having a career first so that they can relate their public service to their role in politics.
Nicholas Soames has been a Member of Parliament for nearly 24 years, and has represented Mid Sussex since 1997.
