Burgess Hill School for Girls have seen their Hockey and Netball teams soar over the last few weeks culminating in gaining six esteemed titles in a very short space of time.

The dynamic U13 Hockey team started off this run of success when they won the West Sussex title by beating Millais 1-0, Sackville 5-0 and drawing with Farlington 0-0. Five days later they went on to beat 11 other Sussex schools to win the Windlesham House seven–a–side Invitational Hockey Tournament. In the seven games played there, the girls scored 22 goals and conceded 0 which was an outstanding achievement. Their hunger for success was again satisfied when they went on to the Sussex Mini Championships and took the county title, again without conceding any goals. The girls now go on to represent Sussex at the South Round of the Mini Hockey Championships next month.

The U12 team followed suit and became the West Sussex Hockey Champions after beating 3 strong Sussex schools at the tournament held at Christ’s Hospital School.  Between them the Hockey teams have brought home two West Sussex Championship titles, a Sussex Mini Hockey Championship title and an Invitational title.

The Netball teams have also collected three West Sussex Championship titles within their age groups. The U13 team played at Thomas Bennett School and won all seven of their games, scoring 63 goals and conceding only 12. The U14 team played their part in this successful season and fought back from some tough matches in a round robin tournament held at Ardingly College to beat Christ’s Hospital 6-3 in the final to win their well-deserved title. Also title winners at the West Sussex Netball Tournament at Thomas Bennett were the U15 team who played some excellent netball, shooting with accuracy and defending with determination to advance to the final and beat Ardingly College 9-5.

The School are absolutely delighted with these recent successes and hope that it will encourage the many other sports teams that exist within the School. The girls have worked very hard for these titles and their team spirit has certainly shone through in the last few weeks!
