The dynamic tennis team of Jane Lavender, Alex Murray, Flaminia Martin, Emma Gibson and Lisa Coppinger have been in excellent form in recent weeks. Since April they have been playing in the Aberdare Cup National Tennis Competition, competing at the highest level. In the first and second rounds they brushed aside Eastbourne College and St Bede’s ‘B’ respectively and advanced to the third round. There they met a strong St Catherine’s side from Bramley. The girls rose to the challenge and won 4 matches to 2. In the regional play off they played Benenden school, Kent, in which they played some excellent tennis, to win 5 matches to 0 to book a place in the National Finals. The girls are now one of the top 16 school teams in the country at U18 level. The team has at least another two years in this age group – an outstanding achievement. The girls continue to train hard with their coaches and will be in action at Queenswood School, Hertfordshire in July.
