The Junior and Inter teams from Burgess Hill School for Girls have been in flying form over recent weeks. First they took part in a Triathlon Athletics Competition with Priorsfield, Farlington, Christ’s Hospital and Millais competing. Each team is made up of four athletes who must compete in two events and the relay. The Junior team performed very well on the track and there were some strong performances on the field. They scored 143 points to finish in first place.
In the Inter age group the girls also performed superbly, scoring well in both the track and field events. The girls scored a massive 280 points, some 20 points clear of second place, to finish as the clear winner. Another excellent achievement.
Both teams continued their impressive run of form at the Track and Field Regional 'A' string finals held at Ashford, Kent. The competition was tough, but the girls rose to the occasion, with many athletes making personal bests or smashing school records. On the track the girls ran with desire and determination, and in the field they gave some very strong performances. The Junior team finished in 3rd place with a grand total of 360 points, whilst the Inters went one better and finished in 2nd place, scoring a massive 364 points to gain a place at the National Finals in July and become one of the top twelve school teams in the country.
