On Tuesday 10th July Burgess Hill School for Girls celebrated the end of term with their annual Founders’ Day, an event which is always both good fun and a reminder of the achievements of the past academic year.
This year the School introduced an Interhouse challenge between the four houses: Burns, Milton, Thomas and Yeats. Each team had just a couple of hours to produce the following: a choir to perform a song in front of the School, a creatively decorated cake, a large painted bin and a gown made out of leftovers from the Textiles department! There was also an Interhouse Tennis match happening at the same time. The items were all judged carefully and this year the competition winners were Thomas. The overall house winners for the past academic year will be announced in September.
The afternoon was set apart for the Founders’ Day Service and Presentation Assembly, to which parents and guests were invited. Canon Ian Prior, who is a governor at the School, opened the service which consisted of hymns, a reading from the retiring Head Girl, music from students and a walk down memory lane from Miss Tracy Walker, an Old Girl who attended the School from 1994 to 2001. Miss Walker then presented the awards to the girls.
It was a very enjoyable day and was a fitting end to a very successful year for the School.
