A Year 1 class from Burgess Hill School for Girls recently visited West Blatchington Windmill. It didn’t matter that the windmill was covered in scaffolding due to repairs; in fact seeing the sails down on the ground made everyone realise just how big they were. Inside, the mill staff welcomed the group and it was exciting to learn how a windmill worked. Highlights of the trip included hand grinding their own flour, trying out the sack hoist, looking for the little model mouse while climbing the steep steps up into the windmill and of course eating packed lunches in the barn.
