Holly Miller, a Lower Sixth student at Burgess Hill School for Girls recently entered a competition named “Ruta Quetzal”. The competition is aimed at sixteen and seventeen year old students learning Spanish and offers a trip to Panama as the prize of a lifetime. Students from across the country wrote letters of application and thirty, including Holly, were selected to attend a day of further assessment in London.
Holly performed well-enough in a written examination to be selected as a finalist. Candidates then had to respond orally to challenging questions as well as entertain the judges. Holly was thrilled to be awarded sixth place overall. Head of Spanish, Mrs Sue West said, “Holly responded calmly and confidently to a series of very daunting tasks and I was extremely proud of her.”
