A cast and crew of over 60 students from Burgess Hill School for Girls and Worth School have been working hard since September to bring the ‘world’s biggest musical’ to life. The director, Emma Tarratt said, ‘It has been a daunting task, tackling one of the world’s biggest and best known musicals. The whole process has been a really ‘epic’ journey in every sense of the word. We have some extremely talented students that have been able to shine by doing this show, both on and off the stage.’
The show includes a huge variety of characters, fantastic songs and humour, as well as tragedy in equal measure. The range of emotions and the epic story line allow all involved, and all those watching, to become fully immersed in the love story that is the tragic life of Jean Valjean, as well as those he encounters, in pre-revolution France.
The challenge of putting on such a massive show has meant a lot of hard work from everyone, but it has been exhilarating too. The 1000 tickets for the show sold out in just over four days, a school record! ‘Whilst Les Misérables has been the most challenging time in my teaching career, it has also been, without any doubt, the most rewarding!’ said Emma Tarratt. ‘We can’t wait for performance week and the chance to perform to such large audiences and hope they enjoy watching it as much as we have done putting it all together.’
