Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Hockey Team represented Sussex at the South of England Championships last week at Cranleigh School. In very hot conditions the girls fought hard and passed the ball with fluency. In the group stage the girls finished in third place to advance through into the Plate Competition. Here in the Quarter finals they played Buckingham who they beat 3-2 in a nail biting match.
In the semi finals the girls played their best hockey, showing excellent fitness levels as well as demonstrating strength and determination in the tackle. The girls came out 2-0 winners against a tough Ventnor side. In the final, their seventh match in total, they made an excellent start by scoring a good early goal against a physical Romsey side. However, unfortunately, they couldn’t hold on and lost 2 goals to 1. The girls can take great satisfaction in finishing in the top ten schools in the South. An excellent achievement!
