Inter-School Showjumping Competition

On the 24th May, Burgess Hill School for Girls held its 10th annual Inter-School, Individual and Team Show Jumping Competition at the Town Place Equestrian Centre in Scaynes Hill. This successful event once again attracted entries from a wide variety of schools with both junior and senior age groups represented. Luckily the weather on the day was ideal, with the rain holding off until the evening, although towards the end of the competition the arena parties were hard pressed to stop the increasingly strong wind demolishing jumps before the horses!

Mrs. Carruthers, Head of Art at Burgess Hill School for Girls, who also organises the School’s equestrian activities, said, “The aim of the show has always been to provide a happy and relaxed atmosphere where the less practised rider can gain in confidence and experience, whilst presenting a challenge for those riders who are more familiar with competition at a higher level. The show takes a lot of organising and it couldn’t go ahead without the support of both our pupils and the many parents who either help on the day, or willingly give up their time to transport our riders to other shows. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their help.”

Riders from Beacon Community College, Guildford High School, Bishop Bell School, Oxted School and Burgess Hill School for Girls scooped the first places in the 5 classes throughout the day.
