Tuesday 14th November saw the start of a new extra curricular activity at Burgess Hill School for Girls, with the launch of a new Chinese Club. Yu Xiang is an experienced Chinese teacher, and is delighted to be on board teaching the girls how to speak and write Mandarin, as well as revealing more about the country and traditions of China through stories, songs, poems and paper folding.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed their first lesson, and were very excited to be speaking their first few words in Mandarin and writing Chinese characters. Yu Xiang also related the story of why the colour red is loved in China, and explained some of the geography of this fascinating country.
Headmistress Ann Aughwane said “The response from the girls has been excellent. Yu Xiang is offering something for everyone, from the youngest participants in Years 3 and 4 in one session, to Senior Girls, some of whom want to work towards a GCSE in Chinese in another”.
