On 23rd May, Year 7 and 8 Burgess Hill girls went on a 3 day trip to Bath, where they had the opportunity to relax after exams and seek inspiration for future design activities.
Upon arrival in Bath, the group’s first stop was ‘The American Museum in Britain’ where they were shown old American quilts and recreated period rooms containing examples of textiles. They took part in a workshop and some girls dressed up in the museum’s costume examples as Tudors and Native Americans.
Saturday began with a visit to the ‘Museum of Costume’, where the group were able to see period clothes from between the 18th and 20th centuries. Following a Q&A session, they designed their own costumes using elements of the displayed period clothes, and even had the chance to try on tight fitting corsets. The group also visited the Roman Baths and learned about the architecture of Bath itself. The packed itinerary also provided for some welcome recreational activities. The weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by both girls and staff alike.
