The musicians of Burgess Hill School for Girls gave a Christmas Concert at the Church of St Cosmas & St Damian, Keymer, on Saturday 9th December. The music was a mixture of the sacred and secular with a seasonal theme. The orchestra and choir also tested out some of the pieces they have prepared for the School’s Centenary Christmas Concert at the Triangle Leisure Centre on Thursday 14th December, which will be the final event of an exciting Centenary year for Burgess Hill School for Girls.
A particular highlight of the first half was the performance of two carols composed by two girls as part of their GSCE coursework. One of the most vivid performances in the second half was the rendition of Britten’s “This Little Babe” from the Ceremony of Carols by Findlay Forte. The church rafters really rang and this was a fitting tribute to the composer on the 30th anniversary of his death.
The concert was well received by an appreciative audience and raised over £750 for the Church organ restoration appeal.
