Burgess Hill School for Girls U16 Hockey Team took part in the Sussex Round of the National Schools' Hockey Tournament held in Horsham. Fourteen Schools took part in the competition and the standard of play was very high. In the group stage the girls played some superb hockey, playing some excellent attacking hockey and defending with determination. They beat: Farlington 2-0, Moira House 3-0, Seaford College 3-0, Roedean 1-0 and drew 0-0 with St Leonards Mayfield to finish in second place and earn a place in the semi finals.
The team travelled to Christ Hospital to face Brighton College the winners of the other section. Burgess Hill dominated possession and were unlucky to go a goal down, but fought back brilliantly to level the scores at 1-1. Penalty flicks were used to decide who went through to the final and with Sarah Locke making two fine saves and Anna George calmly converted the winning flick, Burgess Hill were through to the final. Here they came up against their arch rivals Millais School from Horsham. With three regional players in the side the girls found it hard to break them down, losing by 3 goals to 1. However, the girls showed tremendous character throughout the day to finish in 2nd place in Sussex.
