On Friday 17th November, last year’s Year 11 and Upper Sixth classes of Burgess Hill School for Girls returned for their Presentation Evening with special guest Dr. Alison Mowbray, Olympic Silver Medallist for Rowing as part of the quadruple scull in Athens, 2004. The girls gathered to receive certificates and prizes in recognition of their excellent GCSE and A Level results. This summer’s results were among the school’s best, with 80% of GSCE students receiving all A*s and As, and 95% of A Level students receiving a C or above in all their subjects. Also given were several prizes for ‘Dedication to Subject’, as well as awards in recognition of the numerous extra-curricular activities represented, which ranged from musical, sporting and drama achievements to success in the Duke of Edinburgh and Young Enterprise schemes.
The evening began with the girls meeting for drinks in the newly-extended Sixth Form Centre. Here, they were treated to a ‘photographic trip down memory lane’, as they reminisced with friends and staff. After presenting the various awards, Dr. Alison Mowbray gave a motivating address and inspired all present with her mantra; ‘Expect nothing - Blame no one - Do something’.
Those girls who have left the school for University, College or GAP years made a huge effort to return for this event, and all were delighted to see almost all the ‘Class of 2006’ reunited again.
The evening was a wonderful way to celebrate the girls’ success and was also a marvellous opportunity to say goodbye to all the newly-created ‘Old Girls’.
