Pupils from Burgess Hill School for Girls have once again been successful in the ‘Young Craftsman of Year’ competition which is part of the South of England Show.
Sixth Former Gabrielle Scott won first prize in the Textiles section with her beautiful fabric book which aims to help young children learn and improve their manipulative skills. The theme for each of her pages was animals, and the new embroidery machine was used to stitch the designs.
Rebecca Allen, also in the Sixth Form, was awarded third prize in the Textiles section for a pair of decorated shoes and matching handbag to be worn at a summer wedding.
Both girls were presented with certificates and cash prizes as well as having their work on display at the South of England Show which took place from Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th June at the Showground in Ardingly.
The competition was open to young people between the ages of 14 and 21 from the South East of England and the categories included Design and Technology, and work made specifically out of wood, metal, ceramics or textiles.
Congratulations go to all the girls who had their work on display at the exhibition as they all worked hard to produce wonderful work.
Burgess Hill School was also delighted to be awarded Third Prize in the ‘Taste of Sussex Trophy 2009’ for the design and presentation of the School’s promotional stand. This competition is run by the South of England Show and was open to all the stand holders.
