Students at Burgess Hill School for girls were delighted to receive their A Level results and share in each other’s success. 81% of all A level grades achieved were A or B and 56.7% of all grades were As; the girls achieved a 100% pass rate overall.
All girls are encouraged to pursue the subjects they love and do the very best they can. Science and Mathematics are very popular options and over two thirds of the girls study one or more Science/Mathematics A levels with impressive success, achieving 86% A or B grades. This is most encouraging and contrary to the disappointing decline of these subjects nationally. Performance in all subject areas at Burgess Hill is excellent and is testament to the positive and enthusiastic approach of the girls and staff alike.
Headmistress, Ann Aughwane, said “It is pleasing to see the girls excel in every subject area rewarding their hard work and commitment which is underpinned by effective teaching from our dedicated staff.
The range of University courses chosen by the girls is inspiring and is a reflection of their individuality and self confidence; they are keen to stretch and extend their learning as they move forward in life. The girls have challenged themselves and grasped opportunities positively. We thank them for their contribution to the School and the local community and wish them all well for the future. We will be following their progress with considerable interest and pride.”
The girls will be taking up options such as Chinese & International Relations, Dentistry, Civil Engineering, Law and Medical Physics. Particular congratulations go to an amazing 40% of the year group who gained three or more A grades: Sophie Brammer (French & Spanish, Queen’s College Oxford); Phoebe Chan (Economics & Statistics, UCL); Amanda Cheung (Economics, Bath); Louisa Collins (Accounting & Finance, Exeter); Tara Davey (English Literature, Manchester); Dorothy Jarman (French & German, UCL); Emily Kneale (History, Cardiff); Karen Lee (Law, LSE); Susan Li (Architecture, Edinburgh); Tasha Li (Law, King’s College); Belinda Ma (Psychology, UCL); Holly Miller (Modern & Mediaeval Languages, Pembroke College, Cambridge); Chloe Ng (Environmental Geography, UCL); Jessica Palmer (Medicine, Newcastle); Shrea Patel (Veterinary Science, Edinburgh); Kat Paul (Medicine, Edinburgh); Emily Perrin (Zoology, Durham); Kirsty Simons (Spanish & Italian, Leeds); Hannah Spofforth (Psychology, Birmingham); Sarah Tse (Medical Engineering, Bath); Jessica Zheng (Economics, UCL).
Ann Aughwane added “We are also celebrating the success of the Lower Sixth in their AS courses. The girls broke all school records at this level; with 80% grades A and B at this stage, they are well placed to reach their goals next year. We look forward to them leading the School in the new term; what better positive role models could there be for the younger students following in their footsteps."
