Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Under 14 Netball team took part in the first round of the National Schools competition on Tuesday 1st December.
Throughout the group stages the girls performed exceptionally well, showing great team work, skill and determination. They won all their matches and the results were as follows:
Uplands V Burgess Hill 2-13
Hurst College V Burgess Hill 3- 13
Brighton College V Burgess Hill 10-13
Mayfield V Burgess Hill 3-12
Brighton and Hove High V Burgess Hill 4-14
Sion V Burgess Hill 2-11
Imberhorne V Burgess Hill 9-11
Burgess Hill qualified as winners after these fantastic results and went on to face Warden Park in the semi finals for a place in the Regional finals.
The girls rose to the occasion, with the defence demonstrating some fantastic defending, gaining possession on many occasions. This was backed up by the outstanding shooting performed by the Goal Attack and Team Captain, Amy Huyton-Taylor, and Alice Fanner in Goal Attack.
The girls were victorious with a superb 15-4 win which makes them the Sussex Champions. P.E. teacher and netball coach Mrs Emma Spybey said “They were amazing, I couldn’t have asked for any more from them!”
Burgess Hill School for Girls will go on to represent the county in the regional rounds at East Grinstead on 30th January 2010.
