Book flying

Burgess Hill School for Girls’ ‘Book Flying’ is a scheme that runs in New York called ‘Book Crossing’. Loved books are left on park benches or in other public places for people to find, read and then leave somewhere for someone else. Books have a label inside to identify them and finders can log their views on a website. Our version is called ‘Book Flying’ because we want to create the idea of books as free spirits which belong to the world! We will be starting with six books, most of them the first in a series in the hope that readers will become hooked. Book hooks will appear (‘Will the book on this hook hook you?!) in various locations around the school and we plan to have a web page on the school intranet where readers can log their views. The Sixth Form are setting up their own version. We will be launching ‘Book Flying’ on World Book Day, which is Thursday March 2nd.
