Making a difference

Fiona Watson from Survival International showed unique, recently taken, video footage of indigenous people living in the Amazon rainforest to year 5 pupils at Burgess Hill School for Girls.  Fiona has recently returned from her travels in Brazil where she is committed to campaigning for the preservation of rainforest land for indigenous people.  ‘This is,’ she said, ‘the only way we can hope to save rainforest land, as the indigenous people are the only people who can sustain it.’

The group was enthralled by her very personal knowledge of the life and sufferings of the tribal people.  Her film showed two indigenous tribes who will inevitably die out in the near future as there are only single figure family groups remaining.

In response to this crisis the girls decided to write to the President of Brazil and our Prime Minister.
