2005 - 2006
Young Enterprise 2006
In September 2005, 23 Lower Sixth students at the Burgess Hill School for Girls formed two Young Enterprise companies and have spent months experiencing the highs and lows of running a small business, guided by their link teachers and local business advisors. The companies, ‘Butterfly Tortoise’ and ‘Unicorn’ have enjoyed considerable success, making and selling products as diverse as finger puppets, ‘jelly’ candles and sequin badges.
The pre-Christmas Trade Fair in Burgess Hill Market Place gave them access to a wider market and Butterfly Tortoise were awarded the prize for Best Trade Stand, which gave them the opportunity to advertise on the local radio station Bright 106.4.
On 24th April, both companies competed at the Mid Sussex Area Young Enterprise Presentation and Awards event. Unicorn were placed as runners up in the Best Presentation section, while Butterfly Tortoise won the award for Best Trade Stand and were judged Best Company overall. Butterfly Tortoise will now represent Mid Sussex in the Area final of the competition.
