2005 - 2006 A team of seven students from the Burgess Hill School for Girls took part in the Sussex Girls’ Chess Championship held at Fonthill Lodge School, East Grinstead. During the day each girl played six matches taking over five hours at the end of which everyone was exhausted. After the final nail-biting match, the Burgess Hill Team achieved a creditable second place in the County. Individual County Awards were made to the best player in each age group and here three Burgess Hill School girls were declared champions in their age group.
